A Little Bit Culty

I have been able to catch a little of 3 episodes of your podcast related to the troubled teen industry. Thank you for doing this. I went to CEDU just a couple years after Rachel Uchitel went. I am also friends with author Anne L Peterson who turned me on to your podcast first. I am making a documentary about CEDU and its role in the troubled teen industry. CEDU closed in 2005, but it is still the standard of care for this industry today. In 1999, CEDU and ex-CEDU staff made the umbrella organization called NATSAP with other staff from schools like Elan, Provo Canyon, Cascade and a few more. That is still the way this industry stand today. NATSAP now works with insurance companies and educational consultants to keep these institutions full of children and gives them false medical diagnoses so it all gets paid for by insurance companies. RAD or reactive attachment disorder, is one of these made-up medical terms that will follow a child from facility to facility so insurance pays for their stay. A CEDU based school called Calo has over 90% of its student body of children with RAD as its diagnosis. It’s a term that was meant for adopted or foster children who didn’t immediately love their new parents, so if a family adopts or fosters a child and they go to get help for it, they are told it’s not their fault their ungrateful child doesn’t love them for saving them from because they have RAD and a school can cure it. Long time listener and fan of this podcast and the hosts but 3/4 of the time is ads, too hard to get through. I know they need to make a living and I could pay for as free but just not the same.

I have been having a hard time listening to this show for the past year or so, even though I’m rooting for Sarah and Nippy. I had to turn off the latest Sean Miller episode in the middle because I couldn’t listen to Nippy once again go off on a barely related tangent to what the guest was talking about. This has been happening more and more lately and many of the rants are filled with anger and confusing rhetoric about hot button topics of today. This latest example was born out of a conversation from the guest about how to use anger for positive and not let it make you cynical. Nippy then went off into how social media was creating a generation of hot take artists that have no work ethic and didn’t earn their attention. It was shockingly unrelated and was very hard to follow. This happens all the time. It is especially egregious when the guest has something valuable to say and gets run over with one of these strange monologues. They both get very preachy about a lot of subjects they feel they are experts on - but I feel that they have dropped one ideology from NXIVM to a new more disorganized ideology of their own creation. After listening for many years I’m not convinced these are wise people that I should be listening to.

Could you not find a real publisher?

I absolutely love your podcast! I have learned so much and appreciate it. Nippy’s comment about Ozempic in your part two Sean Miller segment I feel was a little ignorant. For some of us losing weight isn’t as simple as exercise more eat less. I would suggest reading the book weightless by Rocio Salas-Whalen MD.
