Bandsplain

As the minority audience here, I would like to say this podcast has been sort of life changing. Yes, I am listening to it with my Gen-x dad (though he’s now 9 episodes ahead of me), but it has completely reshaped my relationship with music. I hadn’t listened to a guitar band in YEARS. Now I’m seeing Oasis in Vegas next year and my husband is literally going to kill me if I tell him about another way the Happy Mondays are linked to the postal service. I am having a blast. I’m learning so much. And I even tried playing the guitar! That hurt too much so I won’t be doing that again, but thank you Yasi for all the joy you’ve given me!

Just cracks me up when a person pretends they know something when you could tell all they do is Google and snort in the microphone every time they laugh with that fake little snort of the boogers. Someday somebody’s gotta tell this complete clown show. How do you even have a job? She’s not smart. She’s not sexy. She’s not cool. She ruins all these

Great podcast, and I love that Yasi has such unbelievably deep knowledge of her subject but doesn’t feel like she has to be hypercritical about songs or bands that became popular just to prove her bona fides. That kind of knee-jerk cynicism is an affectation so many people seem to adopt to try to convince you that they are “real expert” (deep cuts only!), so I really appreciate her genuine joy for all music, no matter how it was or wasn’t received in the broader public, and I think it underscores her well-deserved confidence in her views and research.

It’s so depressing how much women have to think about their skin care routine. Yasi is so cool!

Yasi clearly wants to move into the beauty/fashion influencer space. I hope she goes crazy with that content on her IG and stubstack. But when it starts to show up on Bandsplain… when she’s bemoaning why listeners don’t ask her about that stuff for her AMA… I can’t help but feel extremely sad, and hesitant to listen to this pod. I come for the music, I don’t want her to try to make money off me me by shilling for fashion and beauty
