NJ Math Coach

The June 19th episode (Mailbag 2) was amazing. I plan to relay the messages being sent in this podcast to all of my K-8 teachers and I greatly appreciate all of the feedback and insights!!

Practical and Based on Evidence

I will be entering my 25th year of teaching in Michigan and this is by far the most practical podcast I have come across. So many topics discussed ring true based on my experience with students and math instruction. I have found the episode with Craig Barton to be especially helpful and have also started listening to all of his podcasts as a result! I am very encouraged to implement so many of these ideas during the 2026-2027 school year. Keep them coming!

Life changing for Parents!

Anna Stokke’s Chalk and Talk podcast has been life-changing for me. As a parent trying to understand why my daughter struggled with math, the podcast helped me finally make sense of how math should actually be taught. Hearing experts discuss evidence-based instruction gave me hope that students like my daughter can succeed when they receive the right kind of teaching. The podcast also led me to educators like Jonathan Regino, whose work has inspired me and helped me see a path forward for my daughter’s education.

Voice of Reason in Math Instruction

Anna is fighting the good fight for clear, effective math instruction. Constructivist math is math’s “Whole Language Reading” moment and is harming our kids. Shout it from the mountaintop Anna!

Gives me hope and ideas

As another reviewer said common sense, but also, thoroughly grounded in science and research. Anna gets the best guests from around the world. I think it’s a plus as well that she’s in Canada, because in the US much of the discourse around education gets overly political, which is unfortunate. Anna is an actual mathematician and instructor at the college level. She sees what the kids need to be prepared to get upper level courses and be college/university ready. Enough with vibe mathing. Just teach them.
