In the late 1940s, CBS chairman William S. Paley, a fan of the Philip Marlowe radio series, asked his programming chief, Hubell Robinson, to develop a hardboiled Western series, a show about a "Philip Marlowe of the Old West". Robinson instructed his West Coast CBS Vice President, Harry Ackerman, who had developed the Philip Marlowe series, to take on the task.

10 minutes of each broadcast includes the same commentary at the beginning and end. Waste of my time. Go to OTR instead.
New 5-minute commentary about old radio shows

Why this new “commentary” about the old radio shows played before ea h Gunsmoke episode? Frankly, I’d rather listen to a commercial. Fortunately there are several Gunsmoke podcasts available, so I’m removing this one and subscribing to one without the dribble.

Great show! The sound effects are awesome. Really bring .the stories to life. Dogs barking, coyotes, the foot steps in dirt streets ! Brilliant . Oh, and the scripts and the acting are pretty incredible too. I can’t believe how much I enjoy this show.
