History of Southeast Asia

This is the only comprehensive survey of SE Asian history that I have found. It’s easy to follow and I love the sense of humor.

Generally good information; I’ve learned a lot about cultures I know only superficially. The delivery isn’t bad, but neither is it polished.

I am spending 9 months traveling throughout SEA and I have very limited knowledge about the history of this region. That doesn’t work for me so I searched for a podcast to help resolve that deficiency and I came across this History of Southeast Asia podcast. Right before I visit a different country and while I’m there I simply search the archives for all episodes pertaining to that country. This podcast has been great and extremely informative and helpful in helping me to connect to each country’s history and culture. I have been recommending it to other people as I travel around the region. My only criticism is that he kinda sounds like AI in his delivery. As I write this I have already visited Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Singapore. So I’m looking forward to hearing all about Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, The Philippines and Taiwan. And if you’re reading this maybe drop me an episode about Hong Kong. 😉

Given the sparse podcast content around Southeast Asian history, I really enjoy listening to these well-researched episodes. I'm always eager for more but would like an additional perspective outside the Western one that Charles presents. I hope the presence of this podcast and Charles' obvious passion for the subject inspires more history podcasts for this region!
