Immaterial: 5,000 Years of Art, One Material at a Time

As an artist I find this worth a listen. But have to agree with most reviewers here. It needs a different narrator.

Brilliant topics! On the episode on Linen, it starts with an amaizng discription of 3,000 year old Egyptian Linen that feels like holding a cloud but instead of further exploration on this subject it pivots to social inequalities of Linens use in the past??? Are you kidding me? I check the heading of this podcast: 5,000 years of art, 1 material at a time but you ignore one of use of linen in painting? So with the episode on Linen there is ZERO mention of the use of Linen in painting?? Oil on Linen is one of the preeminent materials used over the centuries in painting but you don't talk about this?? WHAT?? Look, if this is a show about injustice in societies for certain peoples fine but then don't frame this as an "Arts" show!! Man, this bums me out because this show could have been great if it stayed focused on the topics!!

This is one of the best podcasts I’ve ever listened to — the first, in fact, that I’ve ever listened to in it’s entirety. Not only was the production and storytelling captivating, but it has changed the way I see the world around me and the objects we use on a day to day basis. I hope there will be more like this to come!

Although most of the content is fascinating, I cannot get past the host’s constant mispronunciation of dozens of words. Notably, she pronounces, “museum” as “Mu-ZEHM.” It is not an accept - it is like she is purposely doing it. For this reason, I had to stop listening and I just read the text of the podcast.

I find myself talking about this podcast more than anyone I listen to.
