Fascinating Theology
Love this guest and his knowledge and what the historical events leading to spirituality and Christianity today. The only negative is…..John Mark, I love your work, books and all you bring to my Christian walk, but man, stop interrupting and talking over guest. You are “yessing” and making comments in the middle of his thoughts or finishing his stories….. it throws listener off. Again, you are such a powerful force for Jesus!!
The Risk episode
I’m thankful for this series and don’t mean to offer the following as a negative review—more as an attempt in engaging with one of the episodes. Dr. Sittser’s stories about risk-taking missionaries are admirable in some ways, but I’m curious about what to make of the relational casualties these figures left in their wake. For example, leaving a dying wife behind for the mission field. Or arriving uninvited to a foreign community and asserting yourself as an authority, often to the benefit of a colonial power. As someone who has been on the receiving end of missions work, I am both grateful and wary of this sort of ministry. I left the episode wondering: How can we respond to the radical call of God with a posture of humility and pastoral love towards the people we feel called to? What does risk-taking faith look like in conjunction with the relational responsibilities we all have? I think JMC and Dr. Sittser attempted to address this a little. I’d love to hear them discuss this more.
Love it but…..
I love this series. I’ve listened to every episode, but someone please tell J.M to let the professor speak without interruption. Other than that great podcast.
Had to stop listening
I really wanted to make it through this series as the topic is so wonderful, but the interruptions are just insufferable. I ordered the book and will enjoy that way.
Stop Talking Over Guest
Listening to dr sitter and mysticism and Mark talking over, interrupting and putting words in his mouth is driving me nuts. I enjoy your teaching so much, but please let your guest speak.
