All it takes is one
I feel the same with this podcast as I do with another language related podcast. As to one host, Ms. Gawne, I appreciate what she has to say and her contributions to the show. I wish I could say the same about Ms. McMulloch. Listening to her is like being a guest at a teenage slumber party. I don’t have the tolerance to listen to a giggling “girl” on a podcast that isn’t supposed to be about giggling girls. So, I had to give up on this podcast. If Ms. Gawne decides to start her own podcast I’ll be sure to check it out. Until then…
Loquacious linguistics lover leaving lovely list lauding Linguthusiasm
Lingthusiasm leaves listeners learning legendary lessons, linking linguists like lanterns lighting limitless lives. Luminous, lively, lighthearted, levelheaded—learnings linger, lending listeners lenses less localized, liberating lexicons, lifting limitations.
Enthusiastic about talking about themselves
I am unfollowing this podcast due to my genuine enthusiasm about linguistics. Sound ironic? It is. Listening to this podcast week after week continue to devote more than half. It's airtime to talking about themselves and what they're doing and how they're doing it… And I do mean primarily making themselves The news as opposed to reporting the news… is driving me crazy. I listen to logistics podcasts that discuss actual linguistics. I choose not to listen to linguistics podcasts, or any other subject matter podcast, which reports to discuss a thing, and then proceeds to selfishly, only promote their own career and publicity. So sad.
Enthusiasm indeed!
People have a natural curiosity about language; it’s something we all use, after all. But linguists do such a good job at scaring people away from learning about language. Instead of tackling the kinds of topics these two presenters embrace with so much enthusiasm, introductory linguistics classes tend to be dry and overly complicated introductions to the technical aspects of language and leave out all the stuff that is fun. A hint to university linguistics departments struggling with student enrolment numbers — model your introductory classes on the subjects covered in this podcast and hire instructors as enthusiastic as these two.

Fascinating! (But the hosts often bring in unwelcome politics.)
