Man City episode: what about Chelsea????

BrunoNitCRF•10/4/2026

Incredible that there is no mention or comparison to Abramohich’s acquisition of Chelsea. And the success and growth of a mid-tier London team in an incredible short amount of time. The rules and laws may not have been there, but the drums were being beaten by the likes of Wenger and other on FFP. The lack of self-awareness from these “journalists” is incredible. No one made a connection here?? Seriously??? I suspect this is a classic capitalist story where this infusion grew a league to such as extent that created all these parallel jobs and power that you really don’t want to shake things up too much. Let’s bring Man City back to the dungeons and ignore all other FFP breaches because this will destroy our livelihoods. Let’s focus the outrage in one spot only, not on the corrupt uncompetitive league that has been destroying other European leagues. The positive story of the Premier League must be preserved. There dominance has been been built on a complete lack of Financial Fair Play. Chelsea and Man City have created an investment environment that benefited the entire league really. But the ultimate truth is the Premier League has grown on excesses for longer than Man City. And those teams that have remained will have profited as well.

I hate to be hyperbolic, but Rory Smith makes this show 5 stars!

I started listening to this podcast when it was Roger Bennett and Michael Davies. They were great together. Slowly and eventually, it was mostly Roger, still pretty good. 3 stars at least. Eventually Toger brought on Rory Smith as a guest. For a while, I thought Rory only showed up when it was for “European Nights”. I skipped all of those episodes because Liverpool FC never made much noise in Europe and I avoided all talks where LFC were not meaningfully involved. I don’t remember when I accidentally listened to Rory, but holy happiness. I could listen to Rory talk about almost anything football related. Even when LFC made me sad (which is often). I hate to be hyperbolic, but the crown prince of Harrogate makes this a 5 stars listen, for sure.

The best!

I love listening to Rog and Rory! No one makes me laugh in such an unexpected way. I get audible laughs every time I listen. Thank you I am so grateful to you for this wonderful podcast. P.S. why does Herc Gomez hate Pochettino?

Herc Gomez is cringe , he will go by the way of Alexi lalas , why is he so upset , and why does he always talk like he won a World Cup and he can critique everything and everyone , I can’t take it, love you rog

Beautiful Game, Wonderful Hosts

Rog‘s infectious sunny disposition made this curmudgeon American fall in love with the beautiful game. (Are we sure he’s from England?) World Cup coverage became part of my morning routine and I already sorely miss it. I didn’t realize they were in the Fifa Brazil World Cup video game! I’m so excited to have them as my commentary! Courage!
