My Thoughts on Midst + UNEND
Okay, so, Midst first. The story is fantastic. It’s engaging, mind-bending, and utterly addicting. The characters felt like real people, making bad (and good) real, human decisions. All in all, the whole show is worth it just for the second-to-last episode. !SPOILERS! UNEND next. It’s… fine? Season 1 is much better than season 2. The characters are good… ish. Merlin is detached and unenjoyable. Cleo is great, actually, and I relate to her a LOT. Ironically, Rawfeild is one of my favorite characters simply because of her complexity. Mickey and Everett have adorable, enjoyable banter. Dot—okay, I have a problem with ASMR. Why did you have to make a character that only whispers? The whole “oh my word, plot twist, they’re in ANOTHER COSMOS!” For season 2 felt redundant, as I don’t care about this other cosmos, I care about Midst. The “romantic tension” from UNEND is grating and slow compared to Midst (Phineas + Jonas forever), with the slow-burn feeling, again, redundant. The cliffhanger ending didn’t get me excited at all for season 3, as I was hoping we got an emotional return journey with everyone dealing with the loss of Dot and perhaps the unbelieving media, not ANOTHER hop into a cosmos unfamiliar. And yes, it feels like every 5 seconds they kill off a character just to move the plot along. “Oh my gosh! Felix (love you, dude)/Merlin/Rawfeild/Hambing/Guy/Mickey/Dot are dead! Psyche, they’re actually alive! Nobody dies in this podcast except for those two people, in season 1 who nobody cares about.” All in all, UNEND is fine, and I’ll listen to season 3 just to see if it gets better. Midstie for life, though! I’m going to re-listen to Midst to make myself hyped for S3. :)
Amazing Storytelling!
I love this unique storytelling style so much! And the hosts do an amazing job painting the picture of the story they’re telling i could see it all (un)(fold)!
Too good
My current addictions….. extreme dark chocolate and Midst.
One of my top 3 podcasts
They had me from the first episode. The production qualities were great and the story was engaging. As I was listening to this polished performance, I did a mental double take. “Wait, what? Did they just improv?” I even ran it back to be sure. The combination of incredibly smooth integration of script and improvisation makes for an amazing listening experience. The narrative and character voices are of amazing quality and variety too. Thank you for this series it’s a pleasure to listen to!
One of my favorite podcasts, EVER
Midst does an amazing job of blending science-fantasy, humor, music, and amazing characters into a really engaging story! I’ve loved every episode that has been released and look forward to it every week!
