M William Phelps ...

His journalism pushes moral boundaries. Abd his storytelling needs an editor. He exploits these poor victims with hyperbole and macho antics. Yuck.

Good but difficult because of host

Evgeor•8/31/2026

I really liked the story but the host intro-ing about how award winning he was really killed the story. Also, very much seems like a lot of great really passionate women did 90% of the research and work but are barely genuinely credited for it - a lot of posturing smartness and intellect about the story from the host while it seems like his role uncovering info was pretty minimal… which is fine but then make that distinction clear… the posturing just ruins the story.

The Ego is Unbearable

MariG272•8/26/2026

No one loves M William Phelps more than M William Phelps. This story is less about the victims and the families and more about his own self importance. I’ve tried to listen to the first episode twice now - months apart - and I cannot make it past the 20 minute mark without turning it off for fear my eyes may roll right out of their sockets. I feel bad for the families that came to him believing he would care about their loved ones more than, or at least as much as, he does his ego.

Drags On…

I’ve listened to over 6 hours of season 5, and I feel like I’ve learned very little about the case(s). The hosts narrating is also very, very hard to listen to.

Talk less, say more.

Why. Does. He talk. In such. A. Staccato. Rhythm. It’s. Incredibly distracting. The story was interesting but it could have been told in half the time. The repetitive, meandering details made it feel more like the host enjoyed hearing himself talk rather than tell a compelling story.
