When did this become an interview show?

hellovgn•9/25/2026

I loved this podcast. I listened for almost 10 years. I loved Jon’s takes. I loved Karen, Joe, etcetera. This has become a celebrity podcast interview show and it’s so boring. I don’t care. I came here for music criticism not to listen to pop stars. I’m only writing this review because I miss the old format so much. It gave me so much joy. Now I just skip and delete episodes most of the time.

I miss the old Popcast. The Jon Parales Popcast. Karyn Ganz Popcast. Occasionally y’all still kill it with interviews but it’s getting SLOPpy.

Been a listener for years, but…

…it’s time to give a one star because this interview-first format SUCKS. I can hear interviews with music peeps everywhere. All over the internet. I want to come to Popcast for your all’s thoughts, criticism, opinions, and reportage. At least be more mixed and have interviews every other week or something? Idk. Rethink the formula, my dawgs.

Part of the problem

The conversation here is a glib, cringey performance of old white guys as hip, relevant ambassadors of an ephemeral, youth obsessed, calorie and nutrient free cultural product. It is sad and empty. I wish we had better art capturing our attention and I wish we had sincere, interesting criticism of that art. Not here. This is a clown show, an embarrassment, an annoyance, an affront.

Arrogantly Bombastic

Every time I consider subscribing to The New York Times I don’t because I think of these kind of people. It’s not what they say it’s how they say it. The New York Times keeps rubbing these two on our ears and eyes. Cancel your subscription.
