It has all the feels
David Ridgen is a great human. He is thoughtful, thorough and honest. I am thankful for his work, and hope the families get the justice they deserve
This is not investigative journalism
More questions are raised than answered, too much air time is given to Sebastian and his friends, rather than focusing on the victim and facts about the victim. Nothing is deeply researched or investigated and I didn’t hear a lot of closure brought to any issues raised. Additionally there is a lot of “I believe Sebastian because of how he answered his questions and spoke to me”. Clear bias on the side of the “investigator”. Found that the “investigator” was providing possible explanations of behavior for Sebastian, rather than allowing Sebastien to offer his own responses without assistance. That is not professional from an investigation standpoint. Overall this was a disappointment.
Snoozefest
Totally self-indulgent. This is one of those melodramatic podcasts where the host pretends to be a hard-hitting investigative journalist uncovering new leads, when the reality is the exact opposite. It’s over-narrated, with so much time given to the narrator’s every thought, guess, and irrelevant action — probably in an attempt to distract the listener from the fact that they’re not actually covering any new ground. Also, the fact that the host can’t even pronounce Costa Rica correctly is mind boggling. He couldn’t Google it?! No one on the editing team told him?! Listening to him mispronounce it about 50 times per episode was so grating that I stopped listening and just gave up two episodes in. I’d skip this one unless you enjoy meandering melodrama that adds absolutely nothing to an investigation.
Disjointed, disorganized and poorly reported
The narrator never organizes his dates and the progression of events suffers. Combined with a seeming lack of interest by any organizing authority and sporadic and superficial searches of the house and property make this podcast less of a reporting of a crime and more of haphazard attempt by one who’s looking for a money-making hobby.
So-So
It’s not terrible, I like a lot of it! but it’s just really slow. It has small closure. and I normally just skip to the last episode to see how it ends. The guy in season ten also is in Costa Rica but he calls it Cost- Rica. It’s not a big deal, but it bugs me.
