Josh Weilerstein is a deeply knowledgeable , warm, enthusiastic guide to classical music. Imagine a museum guide who opens new ways of seeing- Josh opens new ways of hearing, deepening and contextualizing a wide variety of pieces.

As a composer and a college teacher of composition harmony/counterpoint, Asian musics, and 20th century music history for 47 years, I am delighted to say that I always enjoy your deep engagement with the music (and its background) and in spite of my long experience I also always learn something or have a long held notion vividly reinforced. Favorite recent episodes have been on Zemlinsky's The Mermaid and on Tapiola. I agree that the latter is one of the very great masterpieces. Most of its radicalisms which you describe astutely are also present 30-some years earlier in his En Saga, contemporaneous with Debussy's Faune, and perhaps an even more original view of the musical future. Not to say that's the most important thing. But yes Morty Feldman was so right about Sibelius.
