…how I feel about this podcast. I’ve only recently started listening and I’m currently going through the episodes on Christian history. I was puzzled by their multiple declarations that this was not an attempt at accuracy. How can anyone say that? Teaching or relaying history in any capacity demands that we strive for accuracy. You may be presenting an overview or a summary, but that’s not the same as inaccuracy. A summary can still be accurate. There also seems to be an undercurrent of hubris. On multiple occasions, there is an insistence on “I’m not an expert” etc, but then he tries to discourage people who are uncomfortable with his take to not even bother to email to disagree. Saying you’re not an expert doesn’t make you beyond correction. Then, in the episode I’m currently listening to, he recommends authors Karen Armstrong and Donald Miller, who are both waaaay outside of sound biblical orthodoxy. I think for me, this is the last nail in the coffin and I won’t be listening beyond this.

No, I don’t believe it is edifying to wade through people’s opinions to find the 5% that may be useful. We are to call out false teachers and be watchmen on the wall. Ephesians 5:10-11 is one recent reference I’ve studied.

Felt like I was listening to a modern day Pharisee talking about all the rules to be followed on sabbath.

I’m halfway through season 5 and this teaching has transformed my life. Learning the Jewish Hermeneutic structure continues to take me back, to guide the study and remember text - context. It’s deeper and more connected than I could have imagined.
