Snake Oil Episode
I appreciate the trajectory of this series and understand the significance of highlighting the past to show the resurgence of where we are in present day. However, as someone who grew up in a Mexican household where grandparents did recommend snake oil for different ailments, I was hoping for more history on how indigenous groups used TRUE snake oil. Are there any studies that truly examined the Hopi tincture? Maybe there could be a series on indigenous practices that resulted in modern treatments?
Fake
Fake “morning news” laughs & banter. Annoying female NOR giggles at everything that isn’t funny. Just annoying fake Kathy Lee “hosts”
Fantastic Listen
I have stumbled upon this podcast and it is now a regular listen. I learn new things each episode and get wonderful book suggestions. Highly recommend for my fellow science nerds.
I remember the hemophilia episode
Hi. I teach Animal Science at the University of Arkansas and I love your show. I actually use several episodes as examples in my class. And the genetic aspects of the hemophilia episode show up in my genetic lectures. My kids are involved in 4-H and both (now 12 and 18) have given talks based on your episodes. Prion diseases and alpha gal come to mind.
Listened to them ALL
Yes, Erins, I remember the hemophilia episode. I remember smallpox, TB, malaria, plague, dengue, measles, and many more because once I found the podcast, I subscribed to keep hearing the new episodes—but I also went back and downloaded previous ones. I have yet to listen to your very latest yet but otherwise I’ve heard them all. For everyone else—I would suggest you do the same. The earliest episodes are just as informative and interesting as the newer ones. And as an abstainer from alcohol, I enjoyed the addition of the placeboritas. (All alcohol tastes like something akin to spoiled, off-brand Robitussin to me—it even smells nasty and sharp). And as an academic librarian at an institution with nursing and other medical areas of study, I appreciate the references you provide. Keep up the great work!
