On a January night in 1995, 18-year-old Christa Pike and two other teenagers lured 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer to a secluded area near the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Excellent!!

I really appreciate them showing all sides of the story! Beth Karas is phenomenal & so is Sarah Treleaven. Both seasons are well researched & I can tell an immense amount of work went into them!

Very biased

I have to agree with a lot of other reviewers on here. This whole podcast just felt like a production to try and make the audience feel sorry for a murderer. They practically skimmed past the actual crime and instead focused on the journey of the guilty party. Like come on, stop playing dramatic piano overtures during dialogue and let me decide for myself how I think they come off. You’re trying to push us into believing that everything being said is heartfelt and meaningful. I do agree that long periods of solitary confinement should be done away with. To the woman who claimed that “there are no evil people, there are just people who do evil things”, you need to open your eyes. There was just something about that statement that really irked me. I’m not specifically saying that Christa is a completely evil person but sadly there are tons of evil people in this world. Also, I thought people were exaggerating but the amount of ads to actual content is about the same. So incredibly annoying to get five minutes of story and then five minutes of ads.

Exceptional Reporting

Beth Karas is a knowledgeable and exacting reporter on all things criminal justice. Unrestorable makes an important case for science-based decision making on policing and in our courts.

Good show, too many long ads

Maxwellam•10/2/2026

Good show but considering how short the episodes are the ads are WAY too many and WAY too long. Very frustrating and will not pay subscription just to avoid ads. Shorten them and I'd be more inclined to listen and subscribe to help out. Don't like being "frustrated" into a subscription.

Tacky

No one cares to hear the woes of a murder…. If she didn’t KILL someone she would be free.. where’s the 2nd chance for the victim
